by age three children typically recognize some letters and make some letter-sound matches. By age five children should be able to recognize all letters and letter-sound matches. Children should also be able to write letters and some words they use or see often. Please remember that children all develop at different ages and that learning about letters and sounds is an important building block in learning to read.
